Destructive testing

Destructive tests are usually applied to test specimens that are cast onto the pieces or cast separately.

Test rods are taken from the test blocks for a tensile test or Charpy impact test. From these, the yield strength, tensile strength, elongation and impact value can then be determined.

For larger series it is more common to take one piece out of the batch and perform destructive tests on the part itself.
