3D sand printing

Sand printing is a fairly recent technique that has made its way into the foundry industry. On the basis of a 3D design, a sand mould is built up layer by layer. This is time consuming and requires an expensive 3D printer, but the casting can be produced this way without making a wooden pattern.

This has advantages for different types of castings:

  • Prototypes and small series
  • Complex products and complex cores (e.g. impellers)
  • Rapid manufacturing (casting in days instead of weeks)

Waterschoot Metals already has experience with this technique in several projects.

  • 3D printing
  • Complex shapes
  • Rapid manufacturing
  • Wooden pattern is unnecessary
