Automatic moulding

Mechanical moulding is a technique to make sand moulds by means of a model and a moulding machine. An automatic moulding line is used for small to very large series. Usually natural bonded sand is used: mainly consisting of sand, water and bentonite (clay). The sand mixture is compressed under high pressure on the moulding model and thus becomes dimensionally stable. Sand cores can also be laid in the sand moulds to create internal cavities.

There are moulding machines with horizontally divided sand moulds and on the other hand with vertically divided sand moulds. The latter are extremely suitable for very large series of simple coreless pieces. Depending on the series size, the forming machines and the subsequent production chain are faster and more automated.
